Any one working for themselves or business owners can help me?

I am tired of working for the man! I want to be on my own and profitable. I am not scared to take risks but not into get rich quick screams. If anyone is in business for themselves or owns a company please give me a few suggestions or paths to look into. I am thinking about franchises but am not sure if that is the right path. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
